South Carolina

 May 20, 2024

We've arrived Blythewood, South Carolina 7,710 miles from home.  Today was an easy ride up from Hilton Head where we avoided the thunder storms yesterday.  Despite having the bike and the seat for over 2 years in California, never has the seat spent days in the rain.  So this morning, sitting on the seat for 5 hours meant that my butt was wet from the rain that soaked into the stitching in the seat.  Nice weather, sunny skies and we visited the Tunnelvision in Columbia, SC and Christy Buchanan's SHE Garden in Winnsboro, SC before Charlene got a mani-pedi in Blythewood.  While she was getting her mani-pedi, big surprise that I found the local bar and met Andy and Pam Sloan.   They asked why I was in Blythewood and when they heard about my charity ride for Children International, Andy donated on the spot.  The South Carolina has beautiful countryside, full dense green forests.

Hilton Head, South Carolina 7,448 miles from home.  Arrived fully soaked as the last 58 miles were through torrential rain and lots of traffic adding to the distribution of water.  Enjoyed dinner with dad for his 95th birthday and when the birthday cake was brought by the waiter, we discovered that dad was not the oldest in the restaurant as there was a 99 year old man sitting nearby.  We decided to wait out the rain on Sunday and stay an extra day so that we could ride dry.  This makes it so that we have one less day to get to Jane's house.

And if anyone else enjoys meeting new cats that let me engage with them...This little guy was at Christy Bichanan's SHEGarden
