Friendship, Wisconsin (Ken, Sue, & Kato)

Ken and Sue hosted me in beautiful Friendship, Wisconsin.  They've got 20 acres of forested land to camp, but they hosted me inside in case of rain.  They gave me good counsel about riding west through South Dakota.

John Smith's Concrete Art Park
Philips, Wisconsin

John Smith's Concrete Park in Phillips, Wisconsin, is an outdoor art installation featuring over 200 concrete sculptures created by self-taught artist Fred Smith. The park showcases a diverse array of figures, from historical personalities to everyday folk, all adorned with colorful glass and stone mosaics. That said, it seemed that he had a penchant for creating male statues as I didn't notice any figures that appeared to be female.

Cell Coverage in Philips, Wisconsin

In Philips, just before the last leg of the day on my way to Hayward, here is what I could see sitting on my motorcycle on the side of the road.

Great, super Cell Coverage, right?  Well, nope!  There was ZERO connection!  I restarted my phone, bluetooth, turned phone's Cell radio off/on!  Rode up and down the town!  Nope!
Went into the Northen Lights bar, bought a beer and asked the locals what was up with seeing cell antennas and no cell service.  They just laughed.   So they began telling me how to get to Hayward the old fashioned way, literally, "make a left at the big deer statue, go 12 maybe 15 miles, make a right on county road B, etc, etc"  Finally the bartender offered that there was WiFi!! So I used that to access Google Maps!  That night, I downloaded all of Wisconsin and Minnesota maps to my phone.

In Hayward, I met with a reporter from the Sawyer County Record newspaper for an interview.  He shared that he expected to publish the story next week.

Cheese Curds

Wisconsin cheese curds are fresh, bite-sized pieces of curdled milk, known for their mild flavor and the unique squeak they make when you bite into them. They're delicious on their own but can also be deep-fried to create a crispy exterior with a soft, gooey inside. These curds are a staple in Wisconsin, celebrated at local festivals and enjoyed as a favorite snack or appetizer. Super yummy.
